In order to fulfil Berry Amendment (Bailey Amendment), the US Department of defense has recently awarded a new $17 million 300 thousand fixed price contract to the well-known sports equipment brand to make training shoes for new recruits.

The Bailey amendment is the Fifth Amendment of the National Defense Department Appropriation Bill passed by the United States Congress in 1941, which aims to require the US Department of defense to give priority to the procurement of domestic R & D and production of materials and products.

In the so-called government funds, made in the United States, in Skowhegan, Norridgewock and Norway, nearly 1000 New Balance employees are trying to create high quality "American made" sports shoes.

The contract is awarded by the National Defense Logistics Bureau. Its basic execution period is 18 months, and there is another 18 month option clause.
